You'd think that if you've got a coupla hundred bucks to blow at the casino, a $20 cab fare might not be a big expense. Apparently, Gilbert Rodriguez, an ex-con from San Francisco dosen't think so and as a result got zapped by the cops.

On Monday, Gilberto Rodriguez rook a cab from 20th Street in San Francisco to Artichoke Joe’s casino in San Bruno.

After arriving, Rodriguez told the driver he needed to retrieve money for the fare before running away, said Chief Deputy District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe.

The amount of the fare in question was not available.

After the driver caught up with Rodriguez, he reportedly pulled out a knife and warned him “Back off or I’ll kill you,” Wagstaffe said.

The driver acquiesced and Rodriguez allegedly ran to another car, pulled open the door and motioned to his waistband as though he had a gun. The female driver got out of the car and Rodriguez hopped in, only to have difficulty starting the vehicle.

He again took off running, back toward the taxi driver, with the knife out. The driver flagged down a San Mateo police officer who happened by and gave chase. Once on the ground, Rodriguez reportedly brandished the knife and was Tasered by the officer until he was immobilized.
