The Cherry Hill Courier-Post was given a sneak tour of the renovation project currently in full swing at Harrah's Atlantic City. Harrah's will be adding a 44 story tower, food amenities and a domed spa/pool area in the hopes of converting 'day trip' Atlantic City visitors into 'weekend' or 'overnighters'. With Atlantic City extremely dependent on bus junkets for a huge percentage of their visitors, this is a mighty charge. The whole shebang should be completed in 2008.

On Tuesday, hotel executives toured the still-under-construction site under a frigid sky and showed off other elements being completed as part of the initial phase of Harrah's $550 million expansion.

A swanky new dining spot - the Waterfall Buffet - will open Presidents Day weekend, along with five of six upscale retail shops, which sell everything from women's fashions to jewelry to Sony electronics.

Crews are working seven days a week, two shifts a day to complete the new sections in time, said R. Scott Barber, senior vice president and general manager of Harrah's.

By this time next year, the ground floor of a 44-story hotel tower will open with a 24-hour cafe and a food court featuring local delicacies like Sack O' Subs and Mack & Manco pizza. The hotel will open for guests by mid-2008. Harrah's cut back the number of suites in favor of more standard rooms, reducing the number of floors from 47 to 44.
