New Jersey Budget Crisis May Cause Atlantic City Casinos to Close

New Jersey's lawmakers are working around the clock this holiday weekend to avoid the having to temporarily close down Casino Control Commission due to budgetary problems. If the CCC are temporarily "laid off" the states casinos will be forced by law to close, silencing one of New Jersey's major revenue streams.

Maybe somebody should've thought about this before hand?

With Atlantic City casinos facing closure in a couple of days, New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine urged state lawmakers on Monday to work around the clock to agree on a budget and end a crisis that has halted some public services.

Corzine on Saturday directed nonessential state services, including the state lottery, to shut down after a July 1 budget deadline passed without the agreement of Democrats in the state assembly on a 1 percentage point increase in state sales tax.

Atlantic City's 12 casinos, which cannot operate without state regulators in place, have been ordered by the state's Casino Control Commission to close from 8 a.m. on Wednesday morning in what would be a major blow after the July 4 holiday.
