Review of new Montbleu Resort in Lake Tahoe (formerly Caesars)

The San Jose Mercury has published the first review of the new Montbleu Resort in Lake Tahoe. Montbleu is the old Caesars Tahoe property in South Shore Lake Tahoe, which was completely refurbished and renamed in the last 10 months. Montbleu's new website has launched and a fancy grand opening/fireworks display took place a few weeks ago.

Montbleu's new owners are Columbia-Sussex Corp... new owners of the Tropicana's in Vegas and Atlantic City.

Purchased in June 2005 by the Columbia-Sussex Corp. for $45 million, renovations at the property began in October. In the months since, Caesars evolved into MontBleu via a $20 million-plus remodel that includes new restaurants, two nightclubs, a full-service spa and a yacht. The intended effect, says Joe Yung, director of development for Columbia Sussex, is a "sophisticated mountain environment.''

"We want to bring the outside indoors,'' Yung says. "We also wanted to provide an upscale environment for the 21- to 45-year-old market -- one that hasn't been seen before in South Lake Tahoe.''

Translation: MontBleu's ambience marries Tahoe's stunning, outdoorsy beauty with a trendy, Lifestyles of the Hip, Young and Beautiful vibe.

So does this mean that "the party is no longer at Harveys?"... we'll see what happens. But Vegas lovers can possibly peek into Montbleu for some clues as to what Columbia-Sussex has for their recent aquisition - The Tropicana.
