Mayor Goodgin Channels Jesus In The Hopes of Luring NFL to Vegas

Mayor Oscar 'Bombay' Goodgin is thirsty... but his thirst this time is larger than a mere cocktail or showgirls, the Mayor is on the warpath for bringing a Major League sports franchise to Las Vegas. Football, baseball, hockey, basketball, badminton, you name the sport... Mayor Goodman wants it.

Apparently he wants it so badly he's taken to sporting the "dish around the head thingy" that Jesus sports in so many of those paintings. Way to go Mr. Mayor! From Sign On San Diego:

The Chargers responded with a letter informing Goodman that their lease with San Diego prohibits them from talking with other cities until Jan. 1. Goodman said yesterday that he is not deterred.

“Las Vegas is the fastest-growing city in the U.S.,” the self-described “happiest mayor in America” said in a phone interview. “A new person moves here every six minutes. A new house is finished every 20 minutes. I'm thirsting for a major-league team. After January 1, I'll see whether the Chargers want to talk business.”

Comments & Discussion:

He's going to need more than Jesus to lure an NFL team to Las Vegas. Considering the stance the NFL has towards the casino industry in regards to betting on games and even the hallowed tradition of the Super Bowl party, the NFL in Las Vegas is a real longshot. So unless the new NFL commissioner hints otherwise, there will probably never be an NFL team in Las Vegas. If the Chargers do move, it will probably be a return to Los Angeles. Las Vegas will get a team in one of the Big 4 pro sports within the next 5-10 years, most likely the NBA, considering that they're holding the All-Star Game there, plus you have the Maloof Factor. The NFl and MLB are way too conservative to even consider putting a team in Las Vegas. The NBA will be the league to make the jump, with the NHL probably following suit a few years later.
