History of New Frontier (Plaza Las Vegas)

The New Frontier Was Imploded on November 13, 2007
One of the few original Strip hotels still standing, the New Frontier (originally the Pair-O-Dice then the Last Frontier) still has that 70's style Vegas charm. Its movie marquee styled street sign hasn't changed all that much in 20 years (except the price of a steak and eggs breakfast has gone up from $1.99 to $4.99 and Gilley's switched from Bikini Mud Wrestling to Bikini Bull Riding). The clientele here is truly cowboy through and through. Throngs of Wrangler wearing cowboys pack the slots, table games, buffets and hotel lobby sucking down domestic Light beer speaking in accents that have as much Twang as a Texas BBQ cookoff. Much like the Hard Rock, The New Frontier's clientele is as much a part of the decor as the joint itself. Not only do all good things come to an end, but all bad things do too... New Frontier closed in July 2007. Boo hoo.

How are the rooms at New Frontier (Plaza Las Vegas)?

Stayed there one weekend in August during the Star Trek convention. We arrived late so they had given away our room. We ended up staying on a pull out sofa bed for two of us. It was the living room of a suite that they had closed off so they could give us a place to sleep. That room needed some repairs, the mirror was broken and it was just plain Ghetto (and not in a good way). They didnt comp us for the room that night, but did give up free buffet breakfast, which was pretty good, actually. The next night we were moved to a better room, but we spent a couple hours roomless while they cleared the last guest out. That room was nice, clean and a far difference from the crack den from the previous night.

What restaurants are at New Frontier (Plaza Las Vegas)?

I think the buffet was $25 or $35, dont ask, I was drunk.

Where is New Frontier (Plaza Las Vegas) Located?

The location is ok, a little far from the main hub of the Strip. You can walk through the Fashion Show Mall hotel to avoid the heat though during the day.

Exclusive Tips for New Frontier (Plaza Las Vegas):

When we were there, there were a lot of folks in their cowboy getup (yeeha!) perhaps because the nightclub Gilleys has a mechanical bull?

Ratings and Reviews of New Frontier (Plaza Las Vegas):

My Rating: 4

Visited the New Frontier on our way back from... uh, I hesitate to tell you this, but.. well, I guess I'll tell you... we were walking back from Circus Circus, okay!? Yes we hung out and reveled in the big top for a few minutes! We had a blast! (not really).

Anyway, when me and Miss Melody first entered the New Frontier casino I was instantly swept back to the 1970's. Then I heard it... the sound of real coins dropping from slot machines was like music to my ears. I have spent the last few years waxing nostalgic about the good old days when real coins fell, clanking in your tray, when you hit a jackpot. Oh, how we'd carry those plastic buckets of coins with pride!

The New Frontier gave me the opportunity to hear that sweet coin music again, and I have to say... what a pain in the ass! I mean really! Getting all those stupid coins when all you really want is your little receipt thingy so you can easily move on to the next thing!

But the real reason we went into the New Frontier was so that I could test out my untested roulette chops in the least intimidating environment I could find. Well, I found it. I was able to belly up to an empty table with a friendly dealer, and all with a minimum bet of five bucks! Perfect!

I had no pressure, was able to ask dumb questions, and got served free drinks at an acceptable pace. I sat for a while and had a bit of a lucky streak, leaving with more than double what I came in with.

Miss Melody found one of her beloved Hexbreaker slots and hit big on that, too! (I should mention that not ALL the slots were coin-only, there are some new "credit" machines, too).

So we'd recommend the New Frontier for grinders who want a low-key atmosphere with low minimums.
