History of Golden Nugget
Opened in 1946 at a then astounding $1,000,000 price tag, the Golden Nugget has weathered every possible storm Vegas can muster, yet, like a fine wine only gets better with age. From Steve Wynn's bajillion dollar renovation in the late 80's to the recent 'Rat-Pack Style' re-branding of the property by dot com bajillionaires Tim Breitling and Tom Poster (including the hi-larous reality TV Show 'The Casino' and their luvable goofball host Tommy Sundstrum).
All BS aside, the Nug delivers. From its agressive odds, to its delicious Wheel of Fortune slots over towards the North West entrance by the mini change desk (we hit some big numbers there) to its spiffy new poker room, to its plush yet affordable rooms, to the delicious Turkey burger at the Carson Street Cafe. Some of the blackjack dealers can be a bit cranky, but the gaming experience overall kicks ass... plus Binion's is right accross the street. Who needs the Strip anyways... We love the Nug.
How are the rooms at Golden Nugget?
The Nug offers a bunch of different rooms, depending on your bankroll and desires. The standard rooms are very competitively priced, considering what you get in NugVibe. They have some Spa Suites, but you have to give them a grip of action before they unlock those doors for you on a weekend night.

What restaurants are at Golden Nugget?
&Please note that the Golden Nuggets Food offerings are in a state of flux, new owners Landry's have dumped Stefano's and a bunch of other Nug stalwart restaurants, to be replaced with Landry's brands.
One late night after a long blackjack/rum coke sesh at the Plaza, we headed over to the Nug for some eats. Over a tremendously delicious Turkey Burger (our compliments to the Chef) at the Carson Street Cafe that VegasTripping.com was born. Good food inspires good ideas... nuff said. The Nug rocks no matter where you eat or what you order... its gonna be good.
Where is Golden Nugget Located?
In the heart of Glitter Gulch baby. It don't get any better than this.
Exclusive Tips for Golden Nugget:

for a 2 night stay on 2 totally different night's here, the first night wasn't bad at all but my last night in vegas i was blown away when we were upgraded to the gold diggers club because the room we had booked was sold from under our feet and wow what a room i have pics to post here if i can so someone please let me know if i can thanx

Stayed in the North tower... a must for convenience (elevators right at pool / casino) and upgraded furnishings. Incidentally, the configuration of the two towers makes for some interesting sun choices at the centrally located pool. You can have direct, shade, or reflective sun off of the mirror windows. The central shark tank, aquarium and waterslide add a strip-like feel to the pool area. Damn, I really enjoyed the GN. Staff was very friendly and helpful, the cafe served up quick, good eats, and there are two starbucks.... Yippee! The sushi resteraunt Red? Skip it. Expensive, and too casino central. The buffet upstairs was perrenially lined up, we ended up at Fitz's.... quick and cheap. Don't be thwarted by complainers. This joint is the best in glitter gulch.... and in the heart of that awesome Freemont St. Experience.
Readers Who Added Golden Nugget to their MyVegas Favorites

I bought the Golden Nugget in the late 1970s and transformed it from a downtown also ran to a 5 diamond resort... eventually I expanded the Golden Nugget brand to Laughlin, NV and Atlantic City, NJ. What a shame how its changed.

Very classy! Will actually consider staying here. Nice and clean casino, pretty nice staff. I like that you can actually see OUTSIDE from the casino and you don't feel trapped and claustrophobe

The property is not your typical downtown hotel. The rooms are very comfortable, the casino bar drinks are good and the slots paid us well. Very classy property and now with the new updates and features it continues to set itself apart from other downtown properties.

The best joint downtown. Can't swing the skyrocketing prices on the strip? Get a better room at a swankier joint - The Golden Nugget. It's a Steve Wynn Joint! (or at least it was)

Nicest hotel on Fremont. Carson Street Cafe has awesome Monte Cristo sandwiches. The shark tank is pretty sweet, especially at night.

Love the Nug. One of the cleaner places on Fremont Street. Yea it's all up dated but they still have the history. Plus the tables pay well. I give it a solid hard eight!!!

I used to love the Nug myself, but then they got bought out by some restaurant company. Whereas the Nug used to really be old school Vegas classy, it's now trying to compete with the hotels on the Strip. If I wanted that, I'd pay to stay on the Strip. Such a waste. I hear they have a shark tank now... I mean, WTF?The gambling is good there, though. I'll give it that. But 2004 was the last time I'd stay there - the service had really gone downhill shortly after the property was sold. And I got tired of being stalked by the timeshare people. We knew they were bad when a just married couple was walking back to their hotel room and got assailed by 5 people telling them about a "free" show. I know this is an evil at most Vegas hotels, but these people were just overtly agressive.
