History of Fontainebleau
Fontainebleau is currently underconstruction
Fontainebleau Las Vegas began its gestation period in 2005 after Turnberry Associates (owner/developers of Turnberry Towers) purchased Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami. They immediately began to make plans to not only redesign the legendary Miami resort hotel but to build a new resort in Las Vegas, expanding the Fontainebleau brand. In an age when many resort/condo/hotel projects in Las Vegas were floated as trial balloons, Fontainebleau Las Vegas set itself apart from the competition by naming former Mandalay Resorts honcho Glenn Schaeffer as the head of their Las Vegas operation. Schaeffer is very highly respected in the gaming industry and his attachment to the project ensured to investors and followers of Las Vegas development that the Fontainebleau wasn't a flash in the pan.
Fontainebleau broke ground on construction in early 2007 and expect to open in late 2009, architectural design was done by Bergman, Walls & Associates. The total price tag for the resort is expected to surpass $4 billion dollars - the most expensive non-mixed use resort in Las Vegas.
