2000 Ways To Hate Las Vegas

(...and other puzzling bemusements)

First order of business: sort as best as I can.

Puzzle Sort

The key was not to sort by property as initially intended. There'd be way too many plates to even decipher what's what; a ton of pieces would be dedicated to Tropicana, very few to Trump, and every fucking building I couldn't place looked like it might be New York New York. Can you tell I'm already frustrated? Anyway, the plates were mostly larger sections - the bottom-right, for example, is a hodgepodge of Planet Hollywood, Palazzo, and some Bally's and Westin Casuarina thrown in. Edges came together fairly quickly. The center tray contains all the pieces I couldn't yet place. And I thought I was a Vegas expert...

It's fun to decipher properties from tiny portions. This image of what looks like a deadly virus under a microscope is actually Treasure Island. Fitting.

Here's Excalibur. You never thought that the windows look like an 8-bit NES game, did you?

Puzzle Excal

Which property do these three pieces look like to you?

I needed a bright spot in my day (fuck, at 10 p.m., no less). Thanks.

I have not read much prose about puzzles, but now I don't need to. This is the luminous Luxor light of literature. (Speaking of which, who knew reproducing the South Strip could be so perplexing?)

Now take the next 41 hours to actually GO to Vegas. You've earned it.

Wow! After reading this I think I must acquire a puzzle! I haven't put one together in probably 20 years...since my mom went on a super aggressive purge of the "game closet" at the family ski cabin not long after I graduated from college...about 20 years ago. Up there we had two totally Vegas related puzzles...one that showed a bunch of brightly colored cocktails against a black background (so many totally black pieces to fit) and another featuring a ridiculous breakfast buffet of pastry and meats and eggs and waffles and ... ... ... Oh my! GREAT STUFF!

I can think of 2000 other ways to hate Las Vegas...one dollar at a time.

This is great, thanks for the Vegas details and for confirming my will to never do a puzzle of this size.

Just checked and Amazon has another Vegas puzzle that is over 5 feet with 6000 pieces. Using your calculations, that is 123 hours to complete. Yikes.

It reminds me of when I put together a Mt. Rushmore puzzle 20-something years ago, So many gray pieces.....

Maybe puzzle building will become an event at #VIMFP we could compete in teams and I want to be on MikeE's team as you are clearly the master. That was the ultimate test of patience and persistence. Well done sir

While I'm reading this wife is cooking and asking me " why are you laughing" %u2026LOL..

Sad MikeE is sad.... nice work tho

Great post! I never thought I'd laugh during a story about a puzzle.

This made my day!!!! Thanks Mike :)
