The Future of Atlantic City

Not to be outdone by Las Vegas, Atlantic City is having it's very own construction boom

The Water Club at Borgata Atlantic City Casino

The hotel component at The Water Club is made up of 652 Club Rooms & 145 Suites fitted with Flat Screen TV's, iPod docking stations, fancy ass fixtures, wireless internet, 400 thread count sheets and his and hers bathrobes and slippers. Very swanky. The opening of The Water Club completes the $600M expansion of the Borgata and raises the total price tag of the joint to $1.7B. This is surely going to be a home run for Boyd/MGMMirage as Borgata has been packed since it opened. For those of us who visit AC, well... if its anything like the digs at Borgata, you know its going to be completely kick ass. This is the difference between visiting a slot joint in Pennsylvania and going to a real bona-fide resort. Adding more non-casino amenities to the Atlantic City market will fend off the competition from Connecticut tribal casinos and the newly opened Pennsylvania slot operations.

MGMMirage - CityCenter East

MGM Mirage owns 85 acres of land in Atlantic City's Marina District, 14 of which are tucked away behind Trump Marina and the rest lie between Harrah's Atlantic City and The Borgata. After floating numerous project balloons over the past few years, Dan D'Arrigo, SVP of Finance at MGMMirage said that he sees the company moving forward with the CityCenter East project within the next five years. "[I have] no doubt that the type of development should be a mixed-use development along the lines of CityCenter, although on a smaller scale" D'Arrigo continued. The main question MGMMirage is contemplating is whether or not they should build with a partner or go it alone. MGMMirage is partnered with Boyd Gaming on Borgata and The Water Club addition.

Revel Entertainment, Morgan Stanley Atlantic City Casino Project

Revel Entertainment / Morgan Stanley Project

Meanwhile, the stealthy Morgan Stanley casino project that is located next to the Showboat on the AC Boardwalk has been progressing steadily. Morgan Stanley selected newly formed gaming company Revel Entertainment as operators of the first casino to be built on the boardwalk since Trump Taj Mahal opened in 1990.

Revel Entertainment, which is headed by former Trump Entertainment executive Kevin DeSanctis, has selected Cosmopolitan Las Vegas architect Arquitectonica to design the layout, exterior and interiors of the of the as yet un-named $2 billion project. Negotiations about branding the hotel casino project as a Hard Rock have been ongoing, but no formal announcement has been made.
