The Future of Atlantic City

Not to be outdone by Las Vegas, Atlantic City is having it's very own construction boom

Posted by Chuckmonster

A flock of construction cranes have migrated to Las Vegas in the last few years, poking their heads out of the majestic neon skyline as they slowly build new nests of sin before flying off into the abyss. Construction is well underway at a huge percentage of Las Vegas resorts including: Encore at Wynn Las Vegas, Echelon Place (Stardust), Palazzo at Venetian, Cosmopolitian and City Center. Additions and expansions are planned at a whole bunch more: Caesars Palace Octavius Tower, THEplace addition to Mandalay Bay and the Tropicana. There's also that slew of new resorts that have recently announced or begun construction - Fontainebleau Las Vegas, Crown Las Vegas, and the as yet unnamed Circus-Circus adjacent MGMMirage resort.

Las Vegas, however, isn't the only gaming resort destination that is experiencing a construction boom. Atlantic City New Jersey is in the middle of an extreme makeover of its own. No less than four new resorts are either under construction, planned or in the late stage rumor mill for the Atlantic City Boardwalk and Marina districts. Many more are either in the throes of tower additions (Harrah's, Atlantic City Hilton) or have recently completed major renovations (Tropicana. Trump Plaza, Trump Marina and Trump Taj Mahal). Atlantic City has not had a new casino since Borgata opened in 2003, and no new resorts have opened on the AC Boardwalk since Trump Taj Mahal's majestic unveiling 17 years ago - in 'Vegas years' that's about two ice ages ago.
