Another Beau Trip

This report describes our weekend trip to the Beau Rivage (Biloxi, MS). Again I am late in posting this trip report (we were at the Beau the second weekend in February 2011).

In short, we had a nice trip. Nothing major has been changed with the hotel, casino, or restaurants. We did try a new steakhouse (LB Steakhouse at the Grand casino). Crowds in the Beau casino were really healthy (at times down right crowded), but the crowds in the lobby and other areas were not bad, in fact kinda quite.

• Nothing new to report on the hotel rooms.
• Beau craps tables were packed Friday and Saturday night. I had to wait each night to find a spot to play. Saturday night I came down at about 10:15pm and waited for about 15 minutes. I could not find a spot so I walked to the Hard Rock and played for 2 hours. Returned to the Beau and still had to wait over 30 minutes before able to get onto a table.
• Late Thursday night craps table crowds not bad.
• Drink service pretty good.
• Casino does not have the ash-tray, stale-beer odor. Pretty good ventilation.
• Coast restaurant in the Beau still has the diner menu. I tried the loaded waffle fries; really good and a lot to eat.
• The workout center is still the same. Too cold to use the pool. The wife again had a really good day using the spa facilities.
• Gelato options were not as good, but the flavors we selected were good.
• Coffee shop still has great coffee and lattes.
• House keeping still keeping the public areas well maintained and clean.
• Friday late morning/early afternoon played craps at the Grand. Nothing different about this place since my last visit and report. At first, only 1 table open ($5), then about noon the other table opened ($10). Table crowds not bad, even Friday night (1 table still at $5).
• Construction of the new Grand hotel and casino is still on hold. The area is sealed off and no equipment or other signs of any activity are present. Concrete support structures have been built with a couple floors, but basically they just stopped.

• As I mentioned before, we like to try different restaurants. We decided to try the steakhouse at the Grand casino (Caesar’s / Harrah’s property).
• Overall, we are pleased we drove to this place Friday night. The menu options were good, food quality really good, along with dinner portions.
• Service could have been better; kinda slow.
• We started with the green fried tomatoes with shrimp (good selection).
• I had the NY strip and she had the filet. Both cooked to order and good taste.
• Total price was about $105 for appetizer, two steaks, two sides, soft drinks, and tax.

In conclusion, this trip was good and enjoyable. Gaming conditions were crowded at the Beau but other areas were calm. Casino host did comp me a few things before leaving. Looking forward to another trip in the near future.

Thanks. Beau is one of the best properties Steve Wynn built. I'm glad to read that MGM is keeping it up to Steve's standards. When Wynn built it, he was criticized for the cost and the money he spent on the barges which make up the casino floor. He did over-spend, but the strength of the barges proved to be the key to the Beau surviving Hurrican Katrina as well as it did. This video of Katrina has been posted often, but here it is as Katrina hits Biloxi and Beau Rivage.
