Short and sweet again-

Once again, arrived in LV from Culver City after a 3hr 45min drive. I left at about 8am.
Went straight to the Venetian and had breakfast at Bouchon, as was recommended on this site. Got the Chicken and Waffles. Whoa. Then it was off to Downtown Vegas...
I spent my first evening at the El Cortez. I have never stayed anywhere downtown, and have only spent a few hours there total since I turned 21 (15 years ago. yikes.).
After checking in I decided to roam the casino. First thing that I witnessed was an employee handing out Jolly Ranchers to the players. I think that I ended up getting more of those than beers at this casino.
Not to be disrespectful, but I felt as if I was in a David Lynch film while playing in the casino. The clientele was quite interesting and some of the sounds and smells given made me miss the douchebags on the strip.
After roaming Fremont St. and getting depressed, I ventured to MSS and had an awesome Belgian style beer at the Triple 7. That was the highlight of my stay in downtown. I lost a crapload of $$ and probably will not stay there again.
I was able to check in at the Encore early the next morning, which was great. Upon opening the door to my room, I was greeted to an amazing view of the Strip and surrounding areas. So Nice. It was the first room that I've ever been in Las Vegas that I didnt want to leave.
I don't care for the Wynncore casino so I didn't play much there. The pool and casino wasn't too crowded and the aforementioned douchegroups were hardly visible. I thought it being Halloween would bring a certain element, but I was pleasantly surprised. No noise from the clubs on the 38th floor, either.
Watched the crazy Chargers-Chiefs game at Holsteins ($100 minimum there if you are in views of the televisions) and had a few pints of Lagunitas and some apps.
Gambling was good to me at the Cosmo and Mirage.
The real highlight was getting stuck in the elevator at 2am in the Encore. I was there for almost 2 hours. I had quite a few beers and have a small bladder. Do the math. Don't want to get into many more details, but I feel like the hotel manager was a little unsympathetic (passed the blame to the elevator company). Getting stuck in a tight space for multiple hours anywhere is unpleasant, (I did get the entire audio of the Steve Wynn resort tour memorized "Wazuzu...I love that word...") but the cold treatment I received afterwards made the whole situation a bit more bothersome.
Oh yes, I was propositioned by a woman (not a prostitute) at the PHo Heart Bar. When I told this to my wife she began laughing so hard that tears were streaming from her eyes (?!).
Of course I had trouble leaving the town and made every excuse to stay a bit longer. Got a sandwich at the EOS and then roamed PHo casino, and the Cosmo casino, and the Aria casino before finally relenting and beginning the trip home.
It was a mixed bag, this trip. But it was Vegas. I feel pain when I leave this place. As soon as the casinos disappear from the rear view mirror I start planning the next trip.

You covered both ends of the spectrum by staying at the El Co and the Encore on the same trip.

The chicken & waffles at Bouchon is amazing! So sorry to hear about your elevator mishap. Did management offer you anything for your troubles?

bigdaddyj responded on Thursday, 3rd November 2011

I agree with JakeZ, did Encore management offer you any sort of compensation, or take anything off of your bill for being stuck in their elevator for two hours? I would hope so, especially at a "5 star/5 Diamond" resort...

I had to wheel and deal with management, but should be getting something in the mail soon.
He gave me a choice of F&B credit or (a) free room(s). He denied me freeplay.

Can I ask what you guys what've deemed acceptable compensation?

bigdaddyj replied on Thursday, 3rd November 2011

considering it was almost two hours you were stuck in there, I would think at least one free room night would be in order. After all, people have sued over far less, if you're being reasonable about the situation, so should they...

They should offer at least one free night or comped your food if you ate at the hotel. 2 hours in an elevator is ridiculous.

That's a tough one, on one hand, I'd be more upset at the treatment afterwards then getting stuck. There is a part of me that would be happy with any kind of compensation and I'd measure it against how long I was in the elevator and the treatment afterwards. Freeplay to me is not something I think you can realistically expect, although asking for it over cash is a way to approach it. 1-2, maybe 3 night free room would be what I would expect.

" As soon as the casinos disappear from the rear view mirror I start planning the next trip. " same here.

So sorry to hear about your elevator problems but looks like you had a good trip after all and probably your next stay will be courtesy of Mr. Wynn himself.
