I was going to ask this in my comment for the new editorial, but figured what I said was so goddamn PROFOUND that it shouldn't be messed with, and I should ask here.

What's the deal with this guy? Chuck has slagged him a few times around here and I don't know what the deal is. I don't subscribe to his newsletter, but I've found his site useful enough that I've added his news page to my RSS reader. I don't get too much out of it, so far just a local's discount and information about a new grocery chain out here in the LV 'burbs where most of you never go. He was also the first I know of to post about the Tigers As Cheeseburgers affair happening at Mirage.

Is he like, bad, or something? What little I've gained from his page would not likely be useful to tourists, but I don't know what the deal with him over here is. I've also gleamed a cheap IP room rate off one of the crazies at the Vegas USENET group, so I guess I shouldn't judge internet personalities based on what they've done for me lately.

I guess this is more a question for Chuck. What's the problem with this dude?

I've always found AC's commentary to be milquetoast, with few exceptions. I've always wondered whether or not I was the only one who thought this. I've got nothing personal A-Curt, he seems like a really really nice guy and based on the number of dedicated subscribers LVA has, people find the service useful.

Based on AC being nominated by readers for a 07 Trippie in the purposefully vague "Most Overrated" category, I'm not the only one who thinks this way. Of all the things in LV that people could label "Overrated", AC's name was what a large percentage of people typed in. Shocking?

Now, I do think that LVA does some great things as well... they've got a hopping message board filled with fabulous reader/contributors who've got great opinions on various Vegas stuff, but installing message board software and charging a membership fee to read posts by fellow tourists is fishy. I do find that some of the 'statistical research' LVA does about pricing trends etc, is incredibly useful and informative in a 'sound bite' kinda way.

I have no use for Vegas coupons, from LVA or the American Casino Guide. If saving $5 on this or that, or getting a free hat or cheesy t-shirt with your buffet or club card sign up is important to you then both of these publications are great resources. I don't have the time or interest to collect, organize, and tote around small pieces of paper to properties that I probably don't want to go to anyways to get a discount on stuff I'd be better off not eating, wearing, or spending any money on regardless of discount. That's just me. Being frugal in Vegas kinda defeats the whole point of the place.

When AC made this boner move at the 2006 WSOP I knew for sure that I didn't want this guy advising me on anything ever again. I'm not a poker professional, but going raising over 100x the pot when the blinds are 25/50... sheesh.

I guess when you consider that just about any and every show on the Las Vegas, I mean Travel Channel, about Las Vegas seems to have him in it at some point, one could argue he's overexposed. A lot of the stuff you can find on his site will pop up on other websites (Even non-Vegas specific sites like FlyerTalk) within hours. Essentially, let the other suckers pay the membership while the other reap the rewards.

I did waste my money on the 2007 ACG. I didn't use a single coupon out of that book. I took the book with me back in March, but was too lazy to use the coupons, especially since they were not as good as the ones in the fun books at some of those casinos. My trip last week, I didn't even bother packing it.

i've only seen him on one of those travel channel specials, and it seems like this guy is the type who needs to use a coupon for everything. "One free $5 play on a table game"...play one hand...win or lose, time to go - now multiply this times 20 casinos. I have no problem with that - i basically throw out the sunday paper just to get the sunday ad specilss, but this guy seems ridiculous. On that travel channel special, he was dragging along a female friend for his coupon dujour tour, and she looked downright embarrased to be with him. You start to wonder if he has ever been to any of the halfway decent restaurants there (not to mention the expensive ones) without a "get a free appetizer" card. Like i said - i have no problem with trying to save money, but man...if there was a porn slapper for coupons, this guy is it.
